I am looking to re-power my 1977 original c/c. i was thinking about a mercury 300 xs. Does anyone here have one on their F233? What sort of speed, and mpg, and gph do you get?

Hey Chris,

I have a Suzuiki 200 and does about 40 , it was re-powered in 1990. I am looking into dropping a Suzuki or YAMAHA 300 in soon. there is a llot of good information on the allof the Outboard motors websites in the Engine test sections . You will be able to get an idea of the performance characteristics by looking for a similar boat size and weight ( about 4000 to 4200 lbs) .

Chris

im putting a yamaha 300 hp four stroke on mine next week ill let you know how it goes.

cheers jim

I personally wouldn't go past twin outboards I am running twin 250hp optimax outboards and the performance is awesome top speed of 94kmh not trimmed out,
Between 40-60 kmh we use 1L per km for both outboards the boat is on the plane in about 1 boat length. I've heard many people regretting putting single outboards on formulas

I have decided to go with twin yamaha 225 for my project. Thanks for the reply.

What year is your hull Stavro?

i would have preferred two engines for performance but we need maximum economy as we mainly go away for four days at a time and buying fuel on the water around our area is a problem, i know the feeling of twins as we had twin johnson 115hp when we first bought the boat.
How many km do you clock up on a round trip ?
we troll for 8 to 10 hours a day and run 25 miles to and from, we stay out at anchor for three to four days, we use 160 ltrs a day with the latest 225hp single yamaha four stroke on my other haines patriot we just sold.
My hull is a late 2010 build but didn't get it in the water until march 2011
My hull is an original 1978 open fisherman, that I am rebuilding.

Hi

Looking forward to seeing the results.  I am putting a Yamaha 350 on the back of mine and I am a bit lost in regards to the prop size.

Cheers

Rick
