Request for payment to remain a member

I love the site, but why would I pay for membership to this community... Because we use Ning? Are there alternative web pages that are still free of charge that we could use? or not?

 

I happen to be a member of no less than 3 other internet boating sites that don't charge a monthly fee.

 

Won't we loose the "sharing of genuine ideas" on this site if the site is limited to 233 owners who are willing to pay... to share boating info. Again I visit here often and love the fact that all the info pertains to my exact model of boat. I would have to seriously consider whether or not to continue my membership @  $9.00 / month.

 

 

What are your thoughts 

 

A message to all members of Formula 233 Registry

Hello all, Ning has decided that they need to charge for hosting sites beginning this month.  That means I'll have to pay to keep the site up.  So, my question is would you be willing to pay a small monthly fee to be a member of the registry.  My guess is that about $9.00 per year from each member will cover the costs of hosting the site.  I'm sure some members will drop out rather than contribute but you would let me know your thoughts I'd appreciate it.  We currently have about 180 members from all over the world.  It's been fun to see just how popular the 233 is.  Thanks for joining.  I hope you'll stay but please reply to this message and let me know either way.  Thanks again for being part of the community! Thanks. I hope we can keep it going. Too bad ning could not make it with their sponsors. They have a real cheap plan but I don't think it will work for more than 100 members and it may not have enough storage for pictures/video.

I really don't mind the 9 bucks per year, but is it really hard to change host? I don't know anything about running a site, so if i'm saying something stupid, i'm sorry.

I'm not a web developer, just an enthusiast who started this up on a lark. Never realized that we would find almost 200 owners from all over the world. I'm sure open to suggestions.

i have no problem with 9 a year i like the fact that we are able to have our own exclusive boat forum seperate from the other forums......and perhaps if there is a fee of some sort the forum will be used more and more ...thanx
