"Hi James...  On the interior sides, the boxes that ran along the floor were rotted out & split open...  they were removed, the side walls were grinded down, sanded and painted. The bottom was sanded down to the original gel coat (red),…"

REPAIR CLOSE TO COMPLETED

"Hi, this boat came out awesome. I have 3 questions for you. Did you do any fiberglass work to the inner sides of the hull or are they just painted? Is the bottom new gel coat or white paint? Any new gel coat at all?"

Sold Tryst close to 4 years ago.... Really regretted it... Got her back a couple of weeks ago "on sale"... a little neglected, very dirty... she's coming back nice! I did the refit using the highest quality parts I could find... looks like it paid…

Long Winter.......

So...... the good deal I thought I got wasn't such a good deal after all ! I didn't do my homework prior to purchasing this 233, and got punished large. I know better, so got what I deserved. Always get the boat surveyed before the purchase, not after. We already know that though, right? Now that I'm an expert on the 70's 233 (thx to the internet), we all know what I ended up with.......Rotted Transom and Stringers, Leaking fuel tank, and all the other bad stuff we've read about a 1000 times. Sure wish I'd found you guys before I pulled the trigger ! The good news is, although I over paid (because it was more than zero), I spent more doing the manifolds and risers on my 2000 330 SS (to close the sale , of course),than I paid for this 233. Boats ?
So after some soul searching, I decided to go for it. I found a good guy up in Westbrook Connecticut, Dan Patten, whose going to bring this one back to life. If any of you guys get jammed up, I'd strongly recommend you give Dan a call. Check out his two web sites: restoredboat.com and wetbalsa.com.
Anyway, I got a bit of a late start this winter, but I figured you guys would be interested in what I'm doing here, so I'm going to upload some of the beginning photos. We've all seen this before ! I'm going to do a full restoration, so I'll keep you updated. THX.

Robert, I am seeking some advice on a fromula 233 restoration in Australia.  Whilst I havemany questions about the great job you have done on your boat, in the first instance I want advice on the right motor. I am wanting a single inboard (like yours) and was considering either a Mercruiser 377MAG 320HP or even a 8.2MAG HO 430HP.  Could you advise if these would suit, or for example the 8.2 would take up too much space.  What have you put in your boat?  Many thanks Jonathan.
