I’m about tobdo the exact same thing this fall. What was you experience? Did you use pure alcohol?

Oh, I took off the black vinyl a few years ago, but as I recall I peeled off the vinyl and wherever the glue stayed I used Acetone to take off the glue as needed. The acetone caused no adverse effects.
