It looked calmer than it was. I waited for 3 days at Beauty Point for a good weather window. 1.5 mt eastly swell. Wind at 10 to 15 kt.

Still a lot of fun!

Hi Stephen, looking at putting a diesel in mine. What are you running, how many horses?

I run A Volvo Penta Kad 42. 230 hp thru a duo prop leg.  WOT sees 34 kts @ 3900 rpm.

Cruise ( depending on sea condition ) at 25 kts  approx. 3000 rpm. Fuel consumption is about 1.3 lt / nm. Torque is approx 500 nm from 1700 rpm .

Yanmar make some good motors  240 - 315 hp that have seen much better fuel economy than my Volvo; my motor 1995 vintage. New motors are also lighter than mine .

However, over xmas I drove over to Tasmania and back and travelled 1300 nm over 28 days with only 2 minor problems that I fixed at sea. I didn't feel that I was suffering from a lack of h.p. at any time.

Hope that helps Simon.

Great trip Stephen, would like to do that myself oneday. Will have to changeover the 7.4 mercruiser before i think about it. I hear mercruiser are making diesels now that can bolt straight onto a bravo leg.

Cheers simon
