engine cuts out in reverse

Hey there everyone  I was out in my boat last weekend and when i slip it into reverse and apply any throttle the engine cuts out immediatly..but it will start right up again...someone suggested that the throttle cable needs adjusting any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
