What is the "legal" max. HP for a 1981 single engine F233?

When i say "legal" i mean for insurance purposes. I called my agent last week and have no answer yet.

I don't believe there is any standard, rather, they will ask you what max speed is. I've never seen a 233 go over 49 mph ; )
Tell them the max speed is 40. I think the cost goes up if you say it goes faster.
I agree with David, for insurance purposes give them a top speed. As a point of reference, GM 350 w/ Bravo III trimmed just so, 45 MPH. I'm sure some of the F233's pictured here will do better than that. I had a 1981 F233 Sportsman with same power and OMC outrdive (single prop) that would barely break 35 MPH and if you tried to get there too quickly it would cavitate. Prop surface area really helps with this heavy hull, out of the hole and all the way to WOT.

With the right engine set-up without even going crazy I am guessing the 233's are capable of 50-60 mph no problem.   Small block chevy vortec roller cam, high rise manifold, with stainless thru hull exhaust should do the trick.

Yes, you are correct.  49 seems to be an insurance break...  My 233 with twin small block will run 60 + for hours...

In 1982, a new 233 with twin 260 M/C,running 21p cleavers with light fuel (say 25gal.) would hit 58 to 59 stock . St. Clair river, summer. Was a Dealer then.

Only stock, boat that was faster was the 302 Fornula with twin 330 TRS's i the line. But in the ruff the 233 would just walk away.
