hey guys, I think I have a leak from my oil pan gasket. People have told me the engine has to come out to replace it, but is it anyway possible to do it with the engine in place?

I doubt it, you have to be able to lower the pan enough to clear the pickup tube then you have to be able to make sure the gasket surface is clean. You might try snugging up the pan bolts first. You might also find it's a main seal leak which probably require engine r&r too.
thanks bro. how much of a pain is it to remove the engine, and how are you supposed to go by doing it? also by any chance do you know where i can get a replacement docking light? one of mine is out. thanks again
Well, as you can imagine it's not just an afternoon job (although it really could be if you had someone with experience to help). You'll have to pull the drive, disconnect the electrical system and wiring harnesses, disconnect water/cooling connections and other ancillary items that connect the boat to the hull. You'll need and engine lift and you should have an engine stand available. Then you've got to disconnect the engine from the gimbal housing and remove the engine mounts and you should be able to pick it out. Frankly, I'd make this an off season project if you can so you can spend time cleaning up the bilge while the engine is out. I'd also service the drive while its off and check gimbal bearing & replace the bellows. You want to service everything that might require another engine/drive removal and do any maintenance or rigging that is easier with the engine out. When you reinstall it you'll need to properly align the engine and drive, this requires a special alignment tool. Bottom line-best to have help from someone who has experience. Check West Marine for the dock light. After looking at the picture of your engine bay it looks like you've got a lot of room to work with so it's a relatively easy task. Twins are a different story. Be careful, engines are heavy....
Good news! I think snugging up the bolts did it!
