Hello, I have a 72 223f that I have started restoring and looking at repowering with a bracket and a yamaha outboard like what you have done (nice work). I have a few questions if you could help that would be great. What size is the motor 25" or 30"? Is the 225 ox66 enough power getting on plane and what is top speed? What is the size of bracket back set? Wow thats alot of question but as you must know now it would really help, THANKS. You can e_mail me at jaymarkley@yahoo.com

Hi Jay,

Sent you an e-mail. Motor is 25". Plenty of power. Planes easy even loaded with 4 people full fuel and scuba gear. Top speed about 46 mph. Gps recorded 48.5 on trip log but that was probably with wind and or tide. I think set back is 28", but it may be 30".

Also cruises at over 30mph, at 4000rpms. Average fuel burn 2.5 mpg based on trip miles and refill.

Set back is 30". I think we figured that 28 would work, but the bracket I found was 30. I would recommend horizontal and vertical bracing inside the transom to tie the plug into the rest of the transom and into stringers or motor mounts if possible.
