A buddy of mine bought it from another bud who put a ton of money into it (new engine in '99) and then got tired of it. My friend kept it in my barn in the winters and did a beautiful job refurbishing it. Every wire was replaced with marine-grade of course. Gas tank was removed, cleaned, and reinstalled. A lot of care, money, and beer went into the boat. When it finally needed out drive work, he was already contemplating a new project. I bought the 233 and he bought a center console something or other with an outboard.
I live in Colchester, and launch at the Salmon River launch in East Haddam, just North of the swing bridge. We are out most weekends in the summer. The Scream and Fly outboard meet happens in October and is a great time to run with some fast boats and meet cool people!
Hey Chris, Thanks for the offer on the engine cover, I'll keep that in mind. The one I have is in decent shape, I was thinking of having it painted? That guy Brian has a set of chrome hinges that I'm interested in. I'll keep you posted. I might have some questions on the 888 as I get to know it. I've had some small issues, mostly from sitting for a few years. The one bad issue I have to deal with at the moment is, it appears I have some corrosion on the drive and the transom housing. I'm waiting for the mechanics recommendation...........I'm not expecting great news on this one ? I have a feeling I'm looking at a new drive, etc. How do you think that's going to work out ?
Well, I'll wait for the verdict, but I've already started fishing around on ebay. I'm glad it's now and not the middle of July, gives me plenty of time to find what I need.
Yeah.........I'm pissed at myself , I know better. I would appreciate a little help with this one. I was just looking at a restoration place in Groton, Dan Patten, I was going to send him an email. If you know somebody good, would love to get the name. I really like the boat, and would prefer to keep her, but from what I've been reading, it looks like a whale of a job ?
