Ken - I am relatively new to the F233 world also (2 years). The hull was designed in the '60's and is a great heavy hull. I take mine out into relatively rough water off New England and I stay dry (Mostly) and upright (always). I have a Ford 302 with an Alpha 1 drive. Most of what I have had to deal with are out-drive issues, and some fuel/carb issues (Thanks Congress for the Ethanol and the carb rebuilds - I had too much free time on my hands anyway).

Ken, welcome to our little group. Post up some pictures of your 233. It sounds very similar to The WaterCanary with twin V8's. Let me know what information you would like and I'll try to help you out.

Ken, I saw your boat listed on Ebay. Hope it turns out to be a great boat for you. Your boat is essentially the same as mine. 233's are great hulls, strong and heavy and ride like 30 footers. For your trip, make sure you have the right tow vehicle because the boat is heavy and you want to be able to stop it. Check the trailer over well and make sure the bearings are serviced and the trailer brakes work. Spare tire of course and a can of fix a flat. Be careful wrapping the boat because if it gets loose you can do damage. Best would be to shrink wrap it. If you can't do that I might leave it open and plan on a cleanup. Definately winterize the engines and drop the drives to drain any water. You can find specs on the links page, go to the Formula site and you can download copies of old brochures. I'm not sure what the weight is off the top of my head, 5,000 or so plus trailer....they are heavy. If it's on that triple axle then it should tow well. I'll try to post some history at another time. Good luck.

Sounds like you had a good trip back. I think you will find information on the shift cut out switches in a Mercruiser service manual. You can find those online at most book sellers like Amazon. You may find they need to be replaced but not a big deal. Not sure what specs you are looking for, let me know details and I'll try to help. I don't know what you mean by IAW but a big piece of lead is a bad deal, you need to off that. As for the cosmetics, I kind of like it in the plain white. Congratulations and good luck.

By the way, your serial number indicates your boat is a 1978 model. Also, if you replace those old cleaver props with some new style Mercury Mirage or Thunderbolt series you will get a lot better performance.

Mine are just standard 260 hp 350 CID in good condition... What diameter and pitch do you recommend for the props?

What kind of speed do you get and what RPM are you running at WOT?

Use the props you have as a baseline. I would guess you would be using 21" and turning 4,500 to 5,000 rpm. The cleavers you have are old technology so I think you will see a significant performance and efficiency improvement with Mirage or Thunderbolt round ear props. My boat runs about 64 mph at 5,000 rpm with 23" Thunderbolt props. Keep in mind that you are looking for fuel efficiency and overall performance as well as speed.
