How did the 275 go?

howdy dave, the 275 is a very nice engine, ive never been a fan of the black anchors but so far im very impressed. electronic throttles, power steering and the motor is super quiet.

currently we are doing a few propeller changes as she was over pitched.  just finnished testing a few 19'" 3 and 4 blade props yesterday and awaiting a few more in the 16-17" to arrive later this week, not achieving correct rpm yet but im happy with the speed,

achieving 39knots currently only trouble is the fuel usage at that rpm ( 110lph) make it a little thirsty, hoping to achieve a comfy cruise around 25-27 knots and 50lph.

think im going to need a bigger fuel tank hehehehe

over all very happy with the hulls performance it dose love speed really comes in to its own at around 30kts

Gret news i can see you zipping out past green is at full tilt :)

:D 110LPH!!!!!! i think if its proped right you should get it down to 40LPH

You should have the stock 400 lt tank so its a good 4 hours of fun......

40 knots is great your tempting me to get pod but i going to persevere with the 454 and if its no good then rip it out and go for the pod and outboard.

OH ian forgot to ask what is the weight on your trailer do they make it under the 2 tonne mark all up?

At 8:00pm on May 4, 2012, ian ziebell said…

yeah fuel econ is a little better at 400rpm and 24kts we are chewing 45lph took er her out yesterday in 20-25kts and she loved it. the fuel tank is only 300l so not exactley lots of fuel for big 50nm runs but will work on a bladder soon.

weight??? hull was around 1600kg from what the crain driver told me plus 300 for motor 100 for pod, fuel etc might be some where around 2500kg

next is a targa to and outriggers. its hard to fine some one in cairns that has some imagination and style when it comes to the rocketlauncher/ targa.

where are you situated dave?? seam to know a little bit about cairns? local?

Thanks Mate i just fitted a 3500KG brake system great to confirm the numbers.

Hey 45LTPH at 24 knots is great especially when you consider the amount of HP. i will be running 380HP and many of the others run 450hp and get the same speed but better if not the same economy.

Im currently in brisbane. Old Cairns i lived up there for almost 15 years worked for jardine shipping and did 6 years in the navy up there. So i know thoes waters like the back of my hand. I cant say i would recomend anyone to make a targa top up there but DAVID MCCALLUM on here has had an awsome one made up for his boat. i would hit him up and see if they can replicate one for you. One note Dave dosent do thing in halfs so it would be the best quality top your ever going to see not sure about how much $$$$$ best to chat to him over the phone.

I hope to get up that way when i finish my boat and haul in some big

Spaniards.

Thanks Ian.  What prop did you settle on?  brand, diameter and pitch?

If you could do it again what power would you use?

Any pics of your rocket launcher and top?  What is that white box on rear deck?  Fish box?  Portable livewell?

I plan on starting a 233 project this winter and appreciate all the help I can get.  I will most likely go with a single on a bracket but would also love the twins.

I'll grab the prop size for you when I'm home ( I work away on a large boat but should be home around the end of august) I did trial 10-12 props and settled for a 4 blade .
If I was going to re power again as mentioned I'd love twin 250 as the hull really loves the speed and im crazy enought to want to do big trips away and just love twin engine reliability. But if I was sticking with a single the. I don't think I'd change much!!!! It's a nicley balanced rig and performed well. I'll update you with some pictures once I'm back on dry land.
Cheers
